Beekeeping Activity under Gramodyog Vikas Yojana (GVY) Scheme
The Beekeeping Activity is a specific component under the “Agro-Based & Food Processing Industries ” vertical of the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana , which in turn is one of the village-industries support schemes run by KVIC under the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises. The purpose of this component is to promote scientific beekeeping, create sustainable livelihood opportunities in rural and semi‐rural areas, utilise natural resources , and generate supplementary income for farmers, unemployed youth, tribal communities and artisans through honey and hive-products. Your business can benefit by receiving training, equipment, bee-colonies and technical assistance to start or scale beekeeping under this scheme.
Key Features
- Skill Development & Training in Beekeeping: The scheme mandates 5 days of beekeeping training conducted through Training Centres, State Beekeeping Extension Centres or Master Trainers. This helps you learn scientific bee‐management practices, honey extraction, colony multiplication and basic hive maintenance.
- Bee-boxes, Live Bee Colonies & Tool-kits Support: Once trained you will receive bee-boxes , live bee colonies, and a tool-kit. This reduces your capital entry barrier.
- Technical Handholding & Market Linkage: After distribution you get technical support or handholding for colony management, honey extraction and operations; some states/KVIC offices also help with market linkages of honey and hive products.
- Eligibility Priority for Women, SC/ST, BPL & Youth: The scheme gives preference or sets targets such as at least 50 % beneficiaries from SC/ST, women, BPL categories.
- Supplementary Income & Ecological Benefit: Beekeeping is positioned both as livelihood generator and as a boost to pollination, benefiting agriculture. The scheme’s objective includes “creating awareness about the benefits of beekeeping in cross-pollination”
