Reimbursement for Indian  patent filing & award

Up to ₹ 2 lakh per Indian patent awarded

Example: If you filed a patent in India and incurred ₹ 1.5 lakh in filing + prosecution, you may claim up to ₹ 1.5 lakh (or up to the ₹ 2 lakh cap) once the patent is awarded.

Reimbursement for international patent 

Up to ₹ 10 lakh per international patent awarded

Example: Suppose you file and secure an international patent for a core innovation of your IT/ITeS business, and your costs amount to ₹ 8 lakh. You may claim reimbursement up to ₹ 8 lakh (within the ₹ 10 lakh cap).

Option 2: Via Department of Electronics, IT, BT & S&T, Karnataka

  1. Ensure your entity is registered under Karnataka’s IT Policy 2020-2025. 
  2. File or have filed a patent  for eligible subject matter.
  3. Gather all invoices/receipts of filing/prosecution costs and proof of patent grant .
  4. Submit the reimbursement claim via the designated application form for Patents Cost Reimbursement, citing the policy incentive clause.
  5. Upon verification of expense, grant status and eligibility, reimbursement will be released in two instalments (75% after filing, 25% after grant).

Option 3: Through Incubator / Startup Ecosystem Partner

  1. If you are a startup or tech entity working via an incubator or ecosystem partner in Karnataka, coordinate with your incubator for IP claim support.
  2. Ensure all patents and cost documents are captured; incubator may assist submission and liaise with the nodal department.
  3. Track the reimbursement process via the policy portal and manage IP grant documentation for final claim.
