NEDFi Micro Finance Scheme
The NEDFi Micro Finance Scheme (also referenced as “NEDFi Micro-Lending Scheme” or “NEDFi Micro Finance Scheme”) is run by NEDFi to support micro-enterprises and grassroots borrowers in the North-Eastern Region of India. According to a press release, NEDFi assists “grass-root small borrowers in un-served and under-served areas of the Region” through the Micro Finance Scheme and Micro-Lending Scheme for income-generating activities in farm and non-farm sectors. Your business, if based in the North Eastern Region and qualifies as a micro enterprise or you operate in farm or non-farm income-generating activity, can benefit from the scheme’s financial assistance on easier terms.
Key Features
- Focus on micro-enterprises and underserved borrowers in North-East: The scheme is designed to reach small borrowers at the grassroots level who are “un-served and under-served” in the region. This means you as a smaller micro-unit stand a good chance of access under favourable terms.
- Dual channel assistance: wholesale to MFIs / on-lending & direct lending: There are two strands - one where NEDFi provides wholesale micro-credit to MFIs for on-lending and the other where NEDFi gives loans directly to micro entrepreneurs. This mixed approach helps reach both institutions and individuals.
- Support for farm and non-farm income generating activities: It covers both agricultural allied activities and non-farm enterprise types, so you are not limited only to manufacturing or service - a broader base.
- Concessional interest rates and simplified terms for micro segment: The press release states that credit schemes for micro & small enterprises in the region are extended at “concessional rate of interest”. Also NEDFi website shows competitive starting rates.
- Operated specifically for the North Eastern Region states: The scheme is meant for the NER under NEDFi’s mandate for that region
