Pottery Activity under Gramodyog Vikas Yojana (GVY) scheme
The Pottery Activity is a specific component under the “Mineral Based Industry ” vertical of the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana , which itself is part of the broader Khadi Gramodyog Vikas Yojana run by the Khadi & Village Industries Commission under the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises . The purpose of the Pottery Activity is to enhance the income of pottery artisans, upgrade their technical skills and equipment, reduce production cost, modernise the craft, and link them with better markets. Your benefit: You as a pottery artisan or group can receive training, modern machinery/tool-kits, and support for market linkages and product innovation under this scheme.
Key Features
- Skill Development Training Programmes: Under this scheme you will be trained in techniques like wheel pottery for traditional artisans, press-pottery for semi-industrial operations, and jigger-jolly methods. For example a 10-day training batch of 20 artisans in wheel pottery is defined in the guidelines.
- Modern & Automated Equipment Supply: Post training, equipment such as electric potter’s wheels, clay blungers, granulators etc are provided to boost productivity and reduce drudgery. For example, approximate cost for equipment for beneficiaries in one batch: Electric Potter Wheel ₹ 20,000, Blunger ₹ 34,000.
- Product Design & Market Linkage Development: The scheme emphasises upgrading product mix: garden pots, khullad , decorative items, crockery, etc., and linking artisans with export houses or large buyers.
- Eligibility Priority & Inclusivity: Applicants aged 18-55 years; special preference to SC/ST, women, BPL categories; both traditional pottery artisans and non-pottery artisans may apply .
- Multiple Modes: Wheel Pottery, Press Pottery, Jigger-Jolly: The scheme provides distinct sub-programmes for different scales/technologies of pottery – from traditional wheel work to more mechanised press processes.

Eligibility Criteria
Who can apply:
- Indian artisans aged 18 to 55 years.
- Preference given to those already in pottery or willing to take up pottery; also traction to SC/ST, women, BPL categories (minimum 50% preference) in many cases.
- SHGs of pottery artisans and even non-pottery artisans who wish to learn press-pottery or jigger-jolly techniques may be eligible.
Who cannot apply:
- Applicants above age limit (>55) or below 18.
- Persons who have already availed similar machine/equipment assistance for the same activity under overlapping schemes .
- Failure to have valid identity proof or meet selection criteria.
- Those not willing to commit to terms e.g., using machines provided only for the scheme purpose
Documents Required
- Aadhaar card / Government issued ID proof. MSME Ministry
- Age proof (to establish you are between 18–55 years).
- Address proof .
- Self-declaration/undertaking (e.g., that you have not availed similar assistance elsewhere; will utilise machine for scheme-purposes)
- Project proposal detailing intended product line .
- Bank account details of beneficiary.
- For SHGs: registration certificate of SHG/Group, list of members, agreed group size.
- Any prior training certificate or experience certificate in pottery .

Option 2: Apply via District KVIC / State KVIB Office
- Visit the nearest KVIC / KVIB office.
- Fill the Pottery Activity Application Form under GVY.
- Submit ID, address proof, artisan certificate, and potter background details.
- KVIC assesses eligibility and includes candidate in the upcoming training/equipment distribution batch.
- Receive training and tools upon approval.
Option 3: Apply Through Pottery Cluster / SHG
- Register with the local pottery cluster, SHG, or artisan group.
- Cluster leader submits consolidated proposal to KVIC.
- KVIC sanctions equipment, raw materials, or CFC for the cluster.
- Tools & training provided at cluster level.
