Power Subsidy Scheme
The Power Subsidy Scheme, 2018 is implemented by the Department of Information Technology, Government of Goa under the Goa Information Technology Policy and Roadmap – 2018. The scheme came into force from the date of its publication in the official gazette and remains operational for five years from the notification date. The main objective of this initiative is to support IT units operating in Goa by reducing their electricity expenses through a subsidy on power consumption. As an MSME or startup running an IT unit in Goa, your business can benefit from reduced operational costs, especially electricity expenses, thereby improving business sustainability and encouraging technology-driven enterprises to establish or expand in the state.
Key Features
- Power Subsidy for IT Units - The scheme provides financial support by subsidising a portion of the electricity charges incurred by IT units operating in Goa. This helps reduce operational expenses for businesses that rely heavily on electricity for their operations.
- Eligibility for New and Existing Units - Both newly established and existing IT units can avail the subsidy if they meet the eligibility requirements and operate within the state of Goa. This encourages expansion and retention of technology businesses in the state.
- 20% Subsidy on Power Charges - Eligible units can receive reimbursement equal to 20% of their electricity charges. The subsidy applies only to the power consumption charges and does not include electricity duty, taxes, or other charges included in the electricity bill.
- Maximum Subsidy Limit - The subsidy is capped at ₹5 lakh per year per unit. This ensures fair distribution of benefits across multiple eligible units while providing meaningful cost support.
- Duration of Support - The subsidy is available for a period of three years from the date of commencement of operations or from the date of notification of the policy, whichever is later.
- Flexible Claim Frequency - Businesses can apply for subsidy reimbursement quarterly, bi-annually, or annually depending on their electricity consumption and claim preference.
- Evaluation and Approval Process - Applications submitted under the scheme are reviewed by the Due Diligence Committee, and the final approval is given by the Empowered Committee, ensuring transparency and verification before disbursement.
