REMOT Scheme is a Central Sector initiative by the Coir Board under the Ministry of MSME aimed at modernising the traditional coir industry in India. It supports upgrading outdated spinning and weaving units through new motorised machinery, proper workspace, and technology improvements.

What is the REMOT Scheme?

  • The scheme focuses on upgrading the technological infrastructure of the coir industry.

Eligibility for the REMOT Scheme

You are eligible if:

  • Your Self Help Group consists of spinners or weavers engaged in coir production.
  • You have land (minimum 2 cents for spinning units, 3 cents for weaving units) for unit setup or lease documents.
  • You submit detailed project proposals certified by a Chartered Engineer/Accountant

You are not eligible if:

  • Your group or unit doesn’t meet the land or membership criteria.
  • You fail to provide the required documents or meet construction standards.

Documents Required for REMOT Scheme

  • Land ownership or lease proof.
  • Proof of Coir industry experience (minimum 3 years)
  • Quotations/proofs for machinery and infrastructure expenses.
  • Project report/profile approved by Coir Board.

  • Offline by submitting the application to the regional Coir Board office. 

Examples of Where the REMOT Scheme Can Be Used

  • A women’s SHG in Kerala upgrades from handratts to mechanized ratts, doubling daily coir yarn production and raising monthly incomes
  • A cooperative of six weavers in Tamil Nadu installs three mechanized looms through the scheme, expanding from mats to carpets and entering export markets
  • An SHG in Andhra Pradesh uses scheme grants to build a modern workshed and purchase new machinery, increasing workdays and hiring more local youth
