Scheme of assistance for patent Registration
You as an inventor, startup or MSME in Gujarat can avail of the “Assistance for Patent Registration” component under the state’s incentive framework. The scheme is part of the broader policy incentives for MSMEs and startups in Gujarat, where the state supports registration of patents to protect innovations, promote product/process development and raise competitiveness. The benefit for your business is that you get financial reimbursement or support for the cost of patent filing/registration which reduces your burden of securing IP protection.
Key Features
- Reimbursement of patent registration expenses – A large percentage of costs incurred in patent filing/registration are eligible for reimbursement under this scheme.
- Cap on maximum assistance and differentiated support for domestic/international patents – The scheme sets a maximum reimbursement cap per applicant/enterprise and may cover both domestic and foreign patents under defined limits.
- Eligibility for individuals, startups, MSMEs and legal entities engaging in innovation – The scheme is open to individuals or entities involved in product/process innovation, which are registered/incorporated in Gujarat or otherwise eligible under state policy.
- Split disbursement tied to patent granting milestones – The reimbursement may be in multiple tranches: for example one part after publication/notification of the patent and the remainder after grant of patent certificate.
- Complementary support via state-IP facilitation centres – Gujarat has established Intellectual Property Facilitation Centres under Gujarat State Council for Science & Technology/GUJCOST for MSMEs to provide IPR awareness, search & filing support.
