S&T for Coir – Advancing Coir Industry through Innovation

Science and Technology (S&T) for Coir

The coir industry is vital to rural livelihoods in India and has immense potential for growth through modern technology. The Science and Technology scheme by the Coir Board aims to bring scientific innovations from labs directly to the field. It helps improve the quality, productivity, and competitiveness of coir products. The scheme supports research institutes to develop suitable technologies and extend these benefits to coir entrepreneurs like you. This initiative strengthens the entire value chain of coir production with technological support and testing services.

What is the Science & Technology Coir Scheme?

Launched by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in 2005, this scheme focuses on transferring research outcomes and technological advancements from the Central Coir Research Institute, Kalavoor, and the Central Institute of Coir Technology, Bangalore, to the coir industry. The scheme extends testing and service facilities to coir producers aiming to modernise their processes and products.
