SIDBI - PRAYASS Scheme
The PRAYAAS Scheme is an initiative by SIDBI aimed at promoting enterprise development among micro-enterprises, especially those at the “bottom of the pyramid” who face difficulty in accessing affordable credit. It was launched as part of SIDBI’s Micro Lending / “Missing Middle” strategy. Under the scheme, SIDBI sanctioned credit lines to implementing partner institutions to on-lend to qualifying micro-entrepreneurs. For your business as a micro-enterprise, if you seek small loans to expand or stabilise operations and fit the eligibility, you can benefit from this scheme.
Key Features
- Focused on micro-enterprises and low-income borrowers: The scheme targets enterprises at the smaller end of the spectrum those that typically have difficulty obtaining commercial bank credit, essentially those “missing” in normal MSME finance flows.
- Use of financial/non-financial intermediaries (PIs) for outreach: Rather than SIDBI dealing directly with every small borrower, the scheme works by sanctioning limits to partner institutions (financial intermediaries such as MFIs / fintechs, non-financial intermediaries) who then on-lend to eligible micro-enterprises.
- Relatively small ticket-size financing: Though the aggregate sanction is large, the individual loan amounts are comparatively modest, tailored to micro-units, enabling more inclusive access.
- Emphasis on rural / semi-urban outreach: A considerable portion of beneficiaries under PRAYAAS belong to rural locations, thereby pushing finance into less-served geographies.
- Structured through partnership model (PIs) rather than direct bank lending: This allows SIDBI to leverage grassroots networks of partner institutions, enabling faster outreach and lower cost of transaction for very small loans.
