Reduction on electricity duty for new unit

For example: LT connection: exemption of duty equal to 10% of electricity bill; HT connection: 15%. For captive/DG: duty 60 paisa/unit after benefit. 

Example: Your new manufacturing unit pays ₹1,00,000 per month as electricity bill. If eligible for 10% duty waiver, your duty component that month might be reduced accordingly (saving ₹10,000). Over 5 years, significant cost savings.

Extended duration for SEZ/special zone units

Up to 10 years duty exemption for units in SEZs or other eligible special locations.

Example: A manufacturing unit in an SEZ starts operations in 2025; under this scheme it may get duty-exemption benefit for 10 years (until 2035) rather than standard 5 years.

Option 2: Government Application via Industries Commissionerate / DISCOM

  1. Visit the official MSME Incentive Portal or contact your DISCOM (MGVCL, DGVCL, PGVCL, UGVCL) office.
  2. Submit the prescribed Electric Duty Exemption application form.
  3. Attach supporting documents (see above).
  4. After verification by DISCOM and state nodal agency, the order for exemption is issued.
  5. Exemption reflected in electricity bills for the approved period.

Option 3: Through District Industries Centre (DIC)

  1. Approach your local DIC with the required details of your industrial connection.
  2. DIC validates MSME registration and forwards the application to the appropriate authority.
  3. Track approval status and exemption activation through DIC or DISCOM helpdesk.

Is this scheme only for MSMEs?

The scheme is open to manufacturing units more broadly; however many MSME-eligible units will qualify and derive benefit. It is not restricted solely to MSMEs unless specified.

Will the duty-exemption reflect automatically in my electricity bills?

Once your application is approved and sanction issued, the electricity duty component in your bills should reflect the exemption benefit .

What happens if I stop production before 5 years?

If you cease production or fail to comply with conditions, the sanctioning authority may recover the benefit, or the exemption may be forfeited.
